You Go Green!

Green Kids

Going green isn’t just good for the environment; it’s good for your body. Natural, organic, free range—these are all terms you need to understand if you are to feed your body the nutrients it needs to perform and look its best.

EAT LOCALLY
Did you know the average distance that food travels from pasture to plate ranges from 1,200 to 2,500 miles? And that may only be within our borders! Along for the ride, extra energy is used to freeze and refrigerate that food. If you really want to take a bite out of the energy expended between you and your food, eat locally. That means your ingredients were grown no more than 250 miles away.

There’s also the added bonus of nutrition value—fresh fruits and vegetables have more vitamin content than old produce. In summary, “shop local”—it reduces energy, supports our farmers and helps you focus on “seasonal,” meaning safer, fresher, more flavourable and more nutritious produce, meats and dairy products. It’s vital to a greener future.

Get away from the fumes of the city and organize a bus trip with your friends to visit a local organic farm. Learn and see first hand how the fruits and veggies of their labour can benefit our environment and our taste buds.

TRY GROWING IT, not sure how to start, visit your local garden nursery for lots of tips from the ideal soil and have your soil tested.
