Singapore Dragon Dance

Singapore is a small island country of 5 million people. Despite its tiny size, it is a leading world financial center and the fourth wealthiest country in the world (per capita). Singapore is home to many foreigners, and its population mainly consists of Chinese, Asians, Malays and Indians.

This video is the Singapore Cheng Jing Hui Dragon Dance at the 2002 World Dragon and Lion Dance Championship. The dancers must do a coordinated and choreographed dance to make the dragon move in an interesting way. It is harder than it looks and takes precise timing.

The dragon has always been an important figure in Asian culture. There are many ceremonies and celebrations that feature dragons in dance, costumes or decorations. There are even sports like dragon boat racing. We still like the dragon from Mulan the best!
