Dance Solo - Katrina
Colors of the Wind - Pocahontas Dance
This dance to Disney's Colors of the Wind was performed at several dance competitions by Katrina.
Many hours of practice go into the preparation of a competitive dance solo. The routine is packed with various dance moves that all need to be executed flawlessly for a good score.
Katrina learned this routine in the 2009-2010 dance season and performed it at many different dance competitions both in the U.S. and in Canada. Hope you like this performance and choreography.
Dance Competition Judging
Judges are quick to point out any real or even imaginary deficiency of an outwardly flawless dance routine, but their decisions are always final. With these dance competitions, the personal taste of some of the judges inevitably gets in the way as it is very difficult to compare an acro routine to a jazz or tap routine and remain unbiased. A judge that is partial to tap dancing may score any tap routine higher than a similar quality performance in a dance style they are either less familiar with or even dislike outright.
Still even with less than accurate judging from competition to competition, overall it is a great experience to get out in front of people and also some judges do give the dancers valuable feedback which can be very helpful to get better as a dancer.
One of the most important skills learned at the dance competition is how to perform live on stage in front of an audience (and with judges - a very critical audience at that ..) and how to perform with the pressure of a no retake performance.
