Tap Dance Solo - Sloane
Tap Dance Solo Performance
This tap dance routine was performed at several dance competitions in 2010 by Sloane to "Way That You Do It".
Sloane shines as a "tapper" and performs this advanced competitive tap dance routine at both U.S. and Canadian dance competitions.
Tap Dance Performance
Tap dancing takes alot of practice to get good at. Sloane spends many hours every week increasing her tap dancing skills. This season another tap dance number is currently in rehearsals for the 2011 Spring competitive dance season.
Competing in dance competitions is exciting, fun and sometimes nerve-racking too!
In this particular National performance, Sloane was the only competitor that received a Platinum award and was the National Champion for her category. She also placed in the top ten overall.
It is very complicated how the judges look at tap.
A good tap judge is usually one who was a tapper and who is very familiar with the technique and rhythm. In essence, you are “playing” your tap shoes like an instrument, so it is very important to make each sound clear and distinct when doing a tap dance. Often times, the best tap routines are not the ones with lots of turns and flash, but rather the ones that have quick steps where each sound is heard.
It’s the sounds that you make in between the music and not necessarily the ones that go with the main beat of a song that makes a tap dance superb.
There are many kinds of tap shoes on the market. The ones most popular in Ontario are the TA800 series by So Danca, but Capezio also has a very good tap shoe out as well. It will make a huge difference as to what you will sound like on stage.
