Seussical the Musical
Seussical the Musical solo dance - Sloane
Musical theatre is a form of performance arts where the performer is acting out a character or scenario – usually from a musical or movie. Unlike song & dance categories for competitive dance, musical theatre is generally lip sung.
Good musical theatre should entertain the audience and needs to be acted out by the performer. Good facial expressions, big body movements and costumes that fit the scene are all part of musical theatre.
In this performance at a dance competition, Sloane is doing a performance from Seussical the Musical. She is acting out the song Amazing Gertrude about a bird who is trying to grow a tail. Musical theatre combines dance moves with acting and theatrics.
Often a musical theatre performance will have little dance. The judges are more interested in the acting and lip syncing ability of the performer.
They want the performer to really play the part and get into the character to the point where the judges feel like they are actually watching the play live with the performer really singing.
Sloane managed to capture all elements with this, her first musical theatre solo and scored in the 90’s with this performance, in turn earning her an overall award at this competition.
You can see Sloane in her only other Musical Theatre solo called Spanish Rose in another one of our videos. She and Katrina had fun doing some group numbers as well over the years.
