Korean Hand Drum Dance
Korean Hand Drum Dance
This is a Korean dance called the hand drum dance. Dance and music has long been part of the Korean culture. Drums and singing have been a part of Korean music that goes back thousands of years. Dance in Korea originated from ancient Shamanistic rituals.
Some Korean dances are traditionally performed by women, others by men and sometimes both together. There are dances for monks, farmers, folk dancers and the royal court.
We love the pretty costumes in this dance. The dancers are very graceful and they use the drums in their dance to create drama and emotion. Other props that are used in Korean dance include hats, swords and long white silk scarves. There are also various forms of the drum dances. Some use small hand held drums like these to others, like the Great Drum Dance, that feature a drum which is taller than the performers.
