These girls are learning a traditional Geisha dance. The word Geisha can be translated to mean performing artist. It can also mean a dancing girl or a traditional Japanese female entertainer. Geishas would also perform music as well as dance.
Geishas would wear traditional dresses, as seen in this video, that are called kimonos. They would also wear their hair up in a traditional hairstyle with a loose bun on top of the head. The makeup would generally be a face painted white, with black eyeliner and red lipstick.
Geishas would often start their training at a very early age, but now it is generally after middle school or even college. Geisha study traditional Japanese instruments, including drums and
learn traditional songs and dances.
