Dance Duet Age 9, We are Siamese

Katrina and Tianna perform as cats at a dance competition to the song "We Are Siamese" from Disney's Aristocats. The song is a modern version of the original movie tune. The dance is choreographed by an award winning choreographer.

Although this performance was choreographed to a modern song, portraying animals in dance performances dates back to early forms of dance.

Cats are very bendy and graceful, and are one of the most portrayed types of animals.  The Broadway musical, ‘Cats’, combines music with dance choreography and body moves that are very feline and cat-like.

This dance is a form of acro dancing, combining gymnastic skills (like aerials and back handsprings) with dance moves.  The costume was designed to fit the cat theme and also to allow ease of movement for the dancers.

Dancers do not wear shoes for acro, as they need to grip the floor with their feet to perform the gymnastics tricks.  Spinning can be more difficult with no shoes, especially when feet stick to the floor.  That is why it is good to practice on different dance floors when possible, to adjust the dance to the different stage floors while performing.
