Front Walkover Tutorial

How to do a Front Walkover

Front walkovers, sometimes called ‘kick overs’, are used in gymnastics, dance, cheerleading and more.  It helps if you can already do a bridge and recover before you try to do the front walkovers.  Make sure you are warmed up before you start and try them on gymnastic mats or softer surfaces.

Start with the leg that is easier for you.  (Usually one side is always easier than the other when you are learning gymnastic tricks.

Once you get your easy side, you can work on getting the other side).

It is always a good idea to have a spotter or partner you can work with to help you do the tricks.  They can help you get your leg over, spot you so you don’t fall, and help to align or correct body position so you are doing the skills properly.

Many gymnastics clubs offer classes or private lessons where you can learn the more difficult skills on their mats and equipment.
Have fun learning your front walkover!  (Don’t forget to keep your legs straight and feet pointed to make them look professional!)
