Ballroom Dance
Ballroom dance originated as a form of social dancing for the privileged. It is best described as a set of partner dances that are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world and can be seen on stage, in movies and on television.
Ballroom dancing consists of two people, a “leader” and a “follower” where the two dance with physical contact. During the 1930’s, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers greatly influenced ballroom dancing in the USA through their work in film.
Today ballroom dancing has become popular again through the world of competitive dancing, sometimes referred to as DanceSport, and by popular television shows such as Dancing With The Stars.
