The world cup 2014 is being hosted in Brazil. There will be a total of 64 matches played in 12 cities across Brazil.
Sao Paulo hosts the opening match beginning on June 12, 2014 and the final world cup matches will be held in the city of Rio de Janeiro The FIFA Executive Committee had confirmed the proposal by the Brazilian Organizing Committee.
Previously, the world cup of soccer has been held in South Africa (2010), Germany (2006), Korea/Japan (2002) and France (1998). The U.S. was host to the world cup in 1994 with Brazil winning that year.
Other hosts included Mexico, Spain, Italy, Chile, Switzerland and Sweden. Brazil last hosted the world cup in 1950!
